Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Ronn Langford. Chances are you haven’t heard of me before. But I believe that after you’ve had the chance to become familiar with MasterDrive, you’ll be glad that you took the time.
Let me explain.
On the last day of August, 1986, I experienced the one thing that everyone of us … as parents … hope that you never have to go through. The call in the middle of the night.
My youngest daughter, Dorri, had recently graduated from high school. She was with a date one evening when the car she was riding in was t-boned by a nineteen year old boy. He had been partying for several hours with two of his buddies. He went through a red light in a residential area. His speed was estimated to be over 55 miles per hour. His blood alcohol level was almost .20 … two hours after the crash! He had some superficial injuries. His two buddies went through some glass, but they survived. Dorri’s date suffered a serious traumatic brain injury, and after several hours of surgery and intensive therapy for many months, he regained most of his life. Dorri wasn’t so lucky. The full sized 4 x 4 came through her side; she was killed instantly.
Because of my background in racing and teaching high performance driving, I made a decision to do something about trying to decrease the frequency of so many teen dying in car crashes. The result is the MasterDrive program, which is based upon the research work done by The Driving Skills Institute, a non-profit research and education foundation created in memory of Dorri. Through this organization we conduct our research and education programs, as well as specific community programs that are conducted for free.
Having two daughters who had gone through the “learning to drive process”, I knew what the typical driver’s ed program was like. The problem was not what they did; but what they
didn’t do. (I also knew what most parents did and didn’t do – first hand.)

The first thing we did was to develop a comprehensive teen driver training program that would give the young teen driver the psychomotor skills and mental programming to become a more competent, skillful, and safe driver. A totally different “driver’s ed program to give the skills and understanding to reduce the risks to teens. The result is a program that is light years ahead of the typical driver education program.
Since that time, we have developed a broad range of driver training programs – all with an intense focus upon systemizing the most effective teaching and learning strategies. Our goal was to be able to effectively work with teens, seniors, corporate fleet drivers, young people who have functional challenges, and other debilitating conditions.
If you share the opinion that we need to produce better drivers, or if you have a specific question or need in regard to driving, I urge you to take a “test drive” through the MasterDrive web site. I think you will find what we do very interesting and valuable.
Sincerely,
Ronn Langford
