Free Driving Skills Programs
The Driving Skills Institute has developed a series of specific Community Programs that are available for free. These programs are available for high schools and parent/teacher organizations, community and social clubs, churches, companies, health organizations, and many more specific organizations. They are sponsored and costs paid for by MasterDrive.

The subject matter can be a variety of topics that are effective in specific strategies for people to learn more about driving safely, and protecting themselves and their families. This can be anywhere from a 20 minute talk at a social club program, or a one hour discussion at a “lunch and learn” for a company, or a 2 hour seminar format for parents and teens who are preparing to go through the “learning to drive” process.

One of the most popular programs is the Beyond Blind Faith program, which is a seminar for new drivers and their parents. The one to two hour program is a totally unique seminar designed to equip parents with strategies for teaching their teen what he/she needs to learn to become a competent and safe driver. It is also designed to impact a teen’s thinking in this learning to drive process, in a highly effective and fun way.

Some of the critical information provided during the seminar:

A complete look at today's driving environment — the conditions, the dangers, the psychology of other drivers (road rage), and specific strategies to handle these situations.
The driver's licensing process — what it is and what it should be!
Essential car control skills. Why and how a teen must learn these skills: crash avoidance, dynamic control of the car, responding to crisis situations, skid recovery, how to use the safety systems of the car, braking, etc.
The importance of learning to respond correctly at the subconscious level — to be able to execute an avoidance maneuver without "thinking about it".
Automobile insurance — how to manage the costs and keep insurance affordable.
The very real financial liabilities of the family when a teen begins to drive, and how to manage that risk.
The use of a contract between the teen and the family to set up an appropriate agreement as to the expectations for the teen, and the consequences of not abiding by the agreement.
What criteria should be used in selecting a car for the new driver?
The use of a family "driving log" to keep track of what a teen needs to learn during the time they have a driving permit.

Feedback from parents who have attended the seminar is typically that it should be mandatory for all parents. Even the teens say the program is fun and they learn a lot!

Each family participating in the Beyond Blind Faith seminar receives a complete packet with valuable materials they can actually use in this process. The materials contain both information and strategies for teaching.

If you would like a free copy of the Driving Log and the MasterDrive Parent / Teen Contract, please request a copy by contacting one of our offices.
