Why It’s Important To Know The Process For Getting A Driver’s License

Reasons Driving Schools Are Important Step

In the United States, the minimum age to obtain a driver’s license ranges from 14 years and 3 months in South Dakota to 17 years in New Jersey.

For teenage drivers, there are certain restrictions, such as how many passengers they can have in the car, but they are not required to drive at a lower speed than other drivers. Drivers under the age of 18 must participate in a driver education program in high school or a driver’s school and also make a certain number of driving hours with an authorized car instructor. Some states, such as New York, require teens to be accompanied by adults.

The minimum age to apply for a driver’s license without restrictions is 21 years.

Knowing the process for getting a driver’s license can help you be better prepared. There are two steps:

Step 1: Written Test

This exam tests your knowledge on road signs, traffic laws as well as driving safety rules. You have three chances to pass this written test. Once you make it, you get a temporary permit. After becoming comfortable with driving, you can more to the second step and make an appointment for the road test.

Step 2: Driving Test

You will have to prove your driving skills in a 100 points system. You will fail the test if you make any critical error, if you make >50 errors while driving or >3 errors on the pre-drive checklist. Just like in the case of Step 1, you have three chances to pass this written test, or you will have to start all over again (including the written test).  Most beginner drivers attend Colorado Springs driving schools to get the driving skills needed to pass the driving test.
