Lesson 2

Basic Training

Lesson 2

When working with a new teen driver, it is easy to just assume that they know some of the basic things.  Everyone knows what the steering wheel does, right?  And what the brakes do? Right?  These kids have been in the car with us for years!  They should know this, right?

Basic Training in driving includes everything from hand positions to seat positions to the overall handling of a 4,000-pound car in motion.  Newer cars have some fantastic technology with new systems that help a driver control a car.  The problem is that new drivers do not know how to use the new technology such as ABS, or other new systems like lane assist.  In fact, some adults do not know how to use the new technologies.

Therefore, Basic Training is going to give parents a solid plan to teach some of the basics.  As in, “This is a football.”  “This is a car.”  “This is the steering wheel.”
