When can my child start your program?

A student can begin the program once they reach 14 and 6 months years old.  MasterDrive can meet all the state requirements and more! It’s important to give your child the knowledge and good driving habits they need to stay safe from the very beginning.

What can I expect if my child is participating in the in-person or virtual option for the required 30 hours of classroom training?

The required 30 hours of classroom training can be completed either in person or virtually depending on your location and comfort level. The training is divided into four days of training. Our classes are typically available on Saturdays and Sundays, although we sometimes have classes on weekdays during the weeks of school holiday breaks. Those three classes are always 8am to 5pm on the day they are held.  Classroom Day 4  is from 8am to 2:45pm on the day it’s held. All class days include a break for lunch. Scheduling is completed after purchase via a phone call with someone from our team. You should receive this call within 3 business days from your purchase date.

Can my student switch from self-paced (online) to in-person live classroom or vice versa once they start the 30 hour classroom training?

No, the DMV requires that the 30 hours are completed in the same program you started in. Self-paced (online) hours are not transferable to the in-person live classroom program and vice versa.

When can my child take the Permit Test?

As long as you student is done with the state-required academics, they can take the Permit Test with us up to one month before their birthday.  The earliest your student can get the Permit is on or after their 15th birthday. They take their passing test results to the DMV and their permit is issued.

Can my child take their Driver’s License Test with MasterDrive?

Yes, once your child is at the point and ready to take the license test, they can do it here with us!  It’s $100 and covers the license test and one additional re-test if needed. We also offer a Test Preparation Lesson to give your child that much more confidence for the test!

What does my new driver need to bring with them to the DMV to get their permit?

  • Birth certificate
  • Social security number (social security card is preferred, but a tax document will work)
  • 2 proofs of address
  • 30 hours classroom completion form
  • Permit test completion form
  • Parent’s ID

My student is older than 16. Do they still need all of the education younger drivers need in Colorado?

In Colorado, the requirements for permitting and licensure change with age.

  • At 14 and 7 months, students can begin the MasterDrive program (30 hours online or classroom education)
  • At 15, students can get permit once 30 hours education is complete (30 hours online or classroom)
  • At 15 and 6 months, a 4 hour EDAP class is sufficient to get permit
  • At 16, students no longer need 30 hours education to get permit, just need to pass the permit test
  • At 16 and 6 months, students no longer need 6 hours on-street training
  • At 18, no logs of hours is necessary, nor do students need permit for a year

Do you offer refunds or transfers on items included in a package but not used?

Per our terms and conditions, purchases that include packages of services offer special pricing made available in a bundle.

Partial refunds will not be available for unused portions of the package, nor can items be transferred to another student.

Additionally, any monies refunded to customers (at our sole discretion) will be assessed a 5% fee to cover banking and processing fees incurred by MasterDrive, for payments received.

Who should I call if I have questions about or need help with my student's self-paced Online Education?

If you have questions or need help with your student’s 30 Hours Online education, please call the Online Education Help Desk at 800-942-2050, Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm CST.

Log in to access the MasterDrive Online Education program here.

Can I just walk into a DMV and take a permit test with them?

No!  Currently, Colorado DMVs are requiring appointments for permit tests.  You cannot walk in and expect to take a test.  Sign up for an appointment here.

Additionally, Colorado recently announced that you can take your permit test from home. Learn more about the process here.

Can my student take their driver's license test at the DMV?

No, currently Colorado DMVs are not offering license tests.  Aspiring drivers will need to take a license test through a private, authorized company like MasterDrive.

How do I get my student's Certificate of Completion?

As soon as a student finishes required 30 hours of education or 6 hours of “Behind-the-Wheel/On-Street Training,” MasterDrive submits the student’s completion info to the DMV.  The DMV then emails the Certificate of Completion to the parent/student, NOT MasterDrive.  The email from the DMV comes from donotreply@state.us.gov and is titled “Third Party Exam Completion.” If you don’t see the email from the DMV within 24-48 hours of completion, check your spam folder!

A few things to note:

– Students over the age of 16 DO NOT get Certificates of Completion from the DMV for 30 hours of education, as it’s not required for new drivers over 16 years old.

– Students over 16.5 DO NOT receive Certificates of Completion for 6 hours of “Behind-the-Wheel/ On-Street Training” because it’s not required for new drivers over 16.5 years old.

How is MasterDrive different?

MasterDrive has a hands-on approach to ensure students are learning the skills to drive a car defensively.  We go above and beyond the state requirements to ensure even new drivers have the skills and confidence to manage the complex and often dangerous situations in modern driving.

Who are your instructors?

Our coaches are highly trained in all facets of driver training.  From our classroom instructors teaching rules of the road and beginning the process, to more advanced levels of instruction, each has been hand selected and given training to ensure they can not only handle a driving lesson, but are coaching your student at the highest level.

How long does my student have to complete all parts of their driver training with MasterDrive?

Every student must complete all parts of the training included within their package no later than 18 months from the date of the enrollment.  Extentions of the contract will not be granted nor will any services be provided after the contract has expired.

Why are the Driving Camps so important?

Perhaps you’ve heard the term “defensive driving?”  That’s what our driving camps teach!
Our driving camp and advanced driving camps do an incredible job of preparing your young driver for day to day driving situations and hazards.  Also it boosts your child’s focus, confidence, and comfort behind the wheel.
In our driving camps, new drivers learn crisis braking and handling, dynamic control and maneuvering, crash avoidance techniques, and skid recovery and correction through repetition.

Can my student do their on-street/ behind-the-wheel sessions back to back?

In order to allow students to practice the skills they learn during their on-street/behind-the-wheel sessions with our coaches, we HIGHLY RECOMMEND that these sessions are spaced 3-4 weeks apart.

What does my new driver need to bring to the DMV to get their driver's license?

  • Permit
  • 2 proofs of address
  • Social security number (social security card is preferred, but a tax document will work)
  • 6 hour on-street completion form
  • 50 hour behind-the-wheel log

How long does it take for my student to get documentation that they've completed their 30 hours of education?

Students who complete their 30 hours of education, for both the self-paced (online) course and live classroom, should allow up to 3 business days for documentation of completion to arrive to the email address on file for the student.

The Certificate of Completion is sent by the DMV, NOT MasterDrive.  The email from the DMV is titled “Third Party Exam Completion” and comes from donotreply@state.us.gov. If you don’t see the email from the DMV, check your spam folder!

We highly advise that this is taken into consideration when scheduling permit appointments at the DMV.

What vehicle will be used for training?

Students will use your family vehicle for driving camps. On-street training is completed with a coach in a MasterDrive vehicle.
